NHFPC Approves Forsythia Suspensa as General Food

Recently, according to the official website of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC); there was a rejection for the application submitted for approval of Forsythia Suspensa as a new food raw material. This application was rejected on the basis that Shanxi province has provided historical accounts of the consumption of Forsythia Suspensa and it is already considered as a general food in China; thus, they do not need to receive approval for this as a new food raw material. Rather, they can develop regional standards for food safety for this ingredient.
