New AQSIQ National Standards to be Implemented for Food Related Material

Two new national standards for food contact material are being implemented by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine to improve safety and quality of the products on the market. They are, “GB 4806.1-2016 – General Safety Requirements for Food Contact Materials and Products” and, “GB 9685-2016 – “Standard for the Usage of Additives for Food Contact Materials and Products”. The safety of food related products has become a primary concern for health regulatory bodies around the world. Along with the recent European Union rejection of 86 batches of unqualified products for food packaging material exported from China including plastic, stainless steel, ceramic and bamboo tableware, non-stick pans and other goods. China CIQ random check has also detected imported unqualified products for food packaging material.
