The Personal Care Technology Summit & Expo 2019 took place in Shanghai between the 20-21 June, with many representatives from the personal care industry in attendance.

The summit, which has been taking place since 2004, is both an informative yet exciting networking event which helps connect members of the personal care industry by providing them with the latest updates and news in relation to “innovative technologies and cutting edge breakthroughs in research and development, production, brand, channel, products under the trend of sustainability, intelligent digitalisation, safety and health, organic material and customisation.”

This was the first time Knudsen&CRC was asked to give a formal presentation about the Leaping Bunny Certification Project in front of a group of Chinese companies.

Companies that are currently Leaping Bunny certified can document, with the Leaping Bunny logo, that their products and ingredients have not been tested on animals. The project was founded in the UK by Cruelty Free International: an animal welfare organisation founded more than 100 years ago who certify cosmetic companies all across Europe.

The main presentation was delivered by the CEO and Founder of Knudsen&CRC, Mette Knudsen, who was absolutely delighted to be a part of such an important event. Knudsen noted she was “positively surprised about the interest in the program.”

Mette further commented that “the interest and participation by the Chinese companies in the Leaping Bunny certification program is paramount in driving the change towards a total ban of animal testing in China.”

Currently, the Chinese certification program can be expedited with the assistance of the Knudsen&CRC team in Shanghai. Knudsen&CRC’s role is to help foreign Leaping Bunny certified companies in China and aid with obtaining full certification for Chinese companies who aim to be certified.

Mette is “very much looking forward to future opportunities in which Knudsen&CRC can assist and consult with Chinese companies in relation to the Leaping Bunny Certification here in China.”

To what extent will Chinese companies actively seek to become Leaping Bunny Certified is currently unknown. However, from initial and recent discussions with Chinese businesses and the extensive research we have conducted at Knudsen&CRC, we are confident in the demand for this certification in China to increase in the coming years. This is somewhat due to the increasing importance of globalisation and the enthusiasm of Chinese businesses to enter new international markets such as those that exist within Europe and the United States.
